A career in motorcycle mechanics can be one of the best and rewarding careers. Motorcycles mechanics service technicians, repair and customize motorcycles, motorized scooters and mopeds.
The type of work done by motorcycle mechanics can depend on the size of the motorcycle mechanic organization they work for. In a large motorcycle mechanic dealerships, motorcycle mechanics may spend all their time in the motorcycle mechanic workshop; however smaller motorcycle mechanic shops, they may spend some time selling bikes and accessories to customers.
On the job as a dealership motorcycle mechanic, new bikes usually arrive at the motor in crates. The motorcycle mechanics unpack them and assemble them and the motor bikes before testing to see that they are safe and work properly. They then polish and clean them, to prepare them for display in the show room. Once a bike has been sold, motorcycle mechanics follow set routines, check for worn or faulty parts and replacing components such as spark plugs, filters and oil.
When a customer reports a fault, motorcycle mechanics use their fault-finding check list skills to find out what is wrong with the motorcycle and decide on a solution. They may have to strip down and re-build part of the bike or its engine. Motorcycle mechanics do this using proper motorcycle hand and power tools. If a part is broken the motorcycle mechanic may have to repair or replace it.
Motorcycle mechanics may pass on electrical problems to a specialist. Modern bikes have very complex electronic systems; some of the latest models have computer technology. However, most are able to do basic electrical repairs.
